Just finished Day 3 of shooting – and it was the first day with dialogue!
The first couple of minutes of No Evil will be, effectively, a silent movie. There are only a couple of words of dialogue planned for scene 1 and none at all for scenes 2 & 3.
We spent the first two days shooting scenes 2 & 3 and it’s only just occurred to me how confusing and boring it must have been for Morgan (as Luke, the only cast member in the scenes) and the crew. We did lots of very short takes, intended for a fast-cutting montage. And it all made perfect sense to me, because I already have the movie in my head. For the others, however, it must have seemed like an endless parade of fairly arbitrary shots.
So, two short scenes in the can today, and at least people are getting to speak. We had Ollie (as Elliot) and his father Carl (as Keith) on set, both of whom delivered great performances. And Morgan’s patience was finally rewarded with his first lines, which he delivered brilliantly. Now it’s really starting to feel like a film.
