End of Day Two and we’re back on schedule. We’d kept aside today for reshoots/overspill from Day One – and boy did we need it.
Back to Mont Margantin to shoot scene two, which started life in Clare’s script as a few lines but became, in my head, an entire montage that has turned out to be somewhat complicated to shoot. All of the morning and the early part of the afternoon was spent in a remote and (I thought) little-used lane. And yet, in a short space of time, shooting was interrupted five times by water company vans. (There’s a pumping station on the top of Mont Margantin).
We shot lots of takes of Morgan (Luke) walking past the camera, sometimes swiping a stick. A few of the shots, such as a ground-level close-up of him picking up the stick, were much harder than you’d think, and I think I’m in the process of acquiring the nickname of ‘One More Take’.
We finished the day’s shooting by returning to yesterday’s location to re-shoot one shot and add a couple more to fix a problem with the way yesterday’s shots were cutting together – one of the advantages of spending at least a little time doing a rough cut in the evening.
So, 53 takes shots yesterday, 71 today. And I’m looking forward to tomorrow, when we’ll actually get to shoot some dialogue.
