As a huge fan of Tim Burton’s movie Ed Wood, it’s strange that it’s taken me so long to get around to watching Plan 9 from Outer Space, unquestionably Wood’s masterpiece. But last night, Trish & I finally settled down to enjoy this classic of the silver screen.
Wonderful. It was one of the most entertaining 78 minutes of my life. And it was everything we expected: terrible acting (although some that was actually not so bad); appalling continuity (some scenes randomly shift between night and day); creaky sets; bizarre dialogue that sounds like they’re making it up as they go and have no idea what the story is supposed to be; weird camerawork … in fact, a complete masterclass in how not to make a movie.
Plan 9 is regularly voted the worst movie of all time. But it’s so bad it’s good. That’s probably more than you can say for Birdemic.
